loisbaker_newAlumni Feature:

Lois Baker is one of our distinguished alumni. From 1954 to 1990, Lois spent her summers on the shores of Lake Hubert.

Lois is no stranger to working with children on a full-time basis. Lois was a teacher for 43 years!  She spent three years teaching in Iowa and the other 40 she taught for the Edina School District, in Minn. as a first grade teacher.  "Fred Rogers knew the Superintendent in Edina and he recommended me for the job," Lois said.  "I was always grateful and the Rogers were always so supportive."

Get to Know Lois in this Q&A about her experience at Camp Lake Hubert!

What years did you attend camp and in what capacity?

-I first came to camp in 1954 as head counselor with the youngest campers in what was then called Birch Abode. I skipped a year, returned in 1956 and each summer thereafter until 1990.  My titles varied between:  Prep Director, Junior Director and Assistant Director.

What memories stand out the most for you while you were a staff member?

One of the features of the camp that kept me coming back and continues to be a good memory is the expertise of the initial four leaders: Mrs. (Grace) Rogers, her son Fred Rogers, Brownie Cote and Chuck Everett.  Also included in those good memories are Ted and Donie Greer, Sam Cote and Bill Jones.
