Camp Songs

At Camp Lake Hubert, we know that one of the best and fastest ways to build connections among campers and staff alike is by singing camp songs together. One can almost always hear singing throughout camp, whether it is at campfire, on the paths between activities, in the dining halls, at Chapel on Bass Lake, just about anywhere.

Some of the songs we sing were sung by generations before us; other songs are newer, introduced by enthusiastic staff and campers.

Each cabin group has a song they sing to introduce themselves at campfires, meals, or all-camp events. Our cabin songs have been passed down for generations. It is important for us to carry on the tradition and teach each cabin song over the first couple of days at camp. The tunes and lyrics are easy to pick up and fun to sing. Many campers come home at the end of their session knowing their own cabin song and several others.

Camp Lake Hubert has an all-camp song as well, which campers and staff sing together:

Camp Lake Hubert Song
For every Hubert girl is quite discreet
She’s got that hundred per from head to feet
She’s got that smile, that style, that winning way
No matter where you go, you’ll recognize her and you’ll say

Now there’s a girl I’d like to know
She’s got that good old Hubert pep and go
And just to look at her is quite a treat
It’s hard to beat a Camp Lake Hubert girl

Blue Sky
[low/melody part]
There's a blue sky way up yonder
There's a blue sky o'er my head
There's a blue sky way up yonder
That's a cover for my bed
And wherever I wander and wherever I roam
There's a blue sky way up yonder
That's a calling me home

[high/harmony part]
There's a blue sky, blue sky o'er my head
There's a blue sky, blue sky cover for my bed
And wherever I wander and wherever I roam
There's a blue sky, blue sky calling me home

Barges
Out of my window looking in the night
I can see the barges flickering light
Silently flows the river to the sea
And the barges too go silently

Chorus: Barges, I would like to go with you
I would like to sail the ocean blue
Barges, have you treasures in our hold
Do you fight with pirates brave and bold

Out of my window looking in the night
I can see the barges flickering light
Starboard shines green and port is glowing red
I can see the barges up ahead

Chorus

Civilization
When your parents leave you
And send you off to camp
Just follow our Lake Hubert girls
To our Lake Hubert camp

Chorus: Da, da, da, da, da
No civilization, baby No civilization
We are living in the rough
The rough, the rough, rough, rough
It's up at dawn each morning
You walk a mile to eat
You stand and watch the flag go up
In rain or hail or sleet

Chorus

And then there's cabin capers
They keep you on the run
They crack the whip and make you work
From dawn to setting sun

Chorus

The biffies are always crowded
There's never a place to go
You stand in line for hours girls
And then they overflow

Chorus

You know we're only kidding
We think Lake Hubert's grand
With our great STAFF and wonderful KIDS
It's the best camp in the land

Chorus

The River Nile
I'm gonna build my castle on the Nile
So I can live in elegant style
Inlaid diamonds on the floor
Bamboo butlers at my door
I'm gonna marry my Prince Alibu (or princess)
My blood will change from red to blue
Entertaining royalty all the while
In my castle, castle, castle on the River Nile
The River Nile

Independence and self-reliance were greatly encouraged at CLH, and my daughter felt supported and also nurtured.
